How to Make Your Yamaha Street Legal in Georgia & Texas: A 2026 LSV Guide

Ready to take your Yamaha Golf Car beyond the fairway? Whether you’re cruising the neighborhoods of Ball Ground, Georgia, or navigating the sunny streets of Mission, Texas, converting your cart into a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) adds a whole new level of utility to your ride.

At Easyride Golfcars, we specialize in making this process seamless. Laws are evolving for 2026, and staying compliant is key to a safe, ticket-free experience. Here is the breakdown of what you need to get your Yamaha street-ready.

What Makes a Golf Car "Street Legal"

In both Georgia and Texas, a street-legal golf car is typically classified as an LSV. To qualify, the vehicle must be able to reach speeds between 20–25 mph and must be equipped with specific safety features required by the Department of Transportation (DOT).

Georgia Requirements (Ball Ground & North GA)

Georgia law allows LSVs on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less (unless local ordinances state otherwise).

  • Headlights & Tail Lights: Must be visible from 500 feet.
  • Turn Signals: Front and rear blinkers are mandatory.
  • Braking: A dedicated parking brake is required.
  • Windshield: Must be an AS5 DOT-approved material.

Texas Requirements (Mission & The RGV)

Texas is golf-car friendly, but to be a legal LSV, you must have:

  • The "Slow Moving Vehicle" (SMV) Emblem: The classic orange triangle.
  • Mirrors: You need a minimum of two (either two side mirrors or one interior rearview and one side mirror).
  • Seat Belts: Mandatory for all occupants in an LSV.
  • License Plate: Unlike standard carts, LSVs in Texas must be registered and display a plate.

The Big Three: Mirrors, Blinkers, and VINs

FeatureGeorgia RequirementsTexas Requirements
MirrorsMust provide a clear view 200ft to the rear.At least two mirrors required for street use.
BlinkersMust be integrated; self-canceling signals are preferred.Must include a lit dashboard indicator for the driver.
VIN / TitleA 17-digit VIN is required for road registration.Required for a title; we can help you apply for a State-Assigned VIN.

Why 2026 is Different

Regulations are tightening regarding 17-digit VIN requirements. Many older carts only have a serial number. At Easyride Golfcars, we walk you through the process of obtaining a state-assigned VIN so you can legally title and insure your Yamaha.

We also focus on DOT-approved equipment. Using a "knock-off" light kit or a non-rated windshield might save a few dollars now, but it won't pass a 2026 inspection. We only use factory-grade Yamaha parts and premium LSV kits.
